Loose
Diamonds Cut: Many people confuse cut with
the shape of a diamond. Most loose diamonds are cut round with a
full 58 facets, and a good cut, or make, has more scintillation,
more sparkle. The shape of the loose diamond, however, is
largely a matter of personal preference and does not directly
affect the value. Cut refers to the proportions and shape of the
finished diamonds, and is the most important factor in
determining the brilliance of a diamond. The finished diamond
should be symmetrical giving the stone maximum brilliance
and fire. If the stone is too shallow or too deep, some
light will escape through the bottom part of the diamond, giving
the appearance of shadows when viewed from the top. the most
brilliant and sparkle diamond it is the Ideal Cut.

Diamonds Clarity:
Clarity measures the relative visibility of external blemishes
or internal imperfections (inclusions) naturally occurring
within a diamond as evaluated by a qualified gemologist. Loose
Diamonds are graded for clarity under 10x loupe magnification.
Grades range from Flawless (diamonds which are completely free
of blemishes and inclusions), to Included 3 (diamonds which
possess large, heavy blemishes and inclusions that are visible
to the naked eye).
Flawless:
no internal marks or internal
inclusions, No
discernible surface blemishes or inclusions visible when viewed
at 10x magnification.
IF: Nearly Flawless
insignificant surface blemishes and no internal defects visible
at 10x magnification.
VVS1-VVS2: Extremely

inclusions at 10x magnification,

to somewhat easy to find surface blemishes or minor inclusions
at 10x magnification.

readily noticeable inclusions at 10x magnification, but will
usually appear to be "eye clean" without magnification.

Diamonds Color: The color scale is used to
evaluate a diamond's internal tint, as well as playing a
significant role in determining its price, colorless diamonds
being the most desirable
Diamonds.
D E F: Colorless, Diamonds
graded D through F are naturally the most valuable and desirable
because of their rarity.
G H I J:
Near Colorless

diamond engagement rings.

Loose Diamonds
Carat:
Diamonds are measured
in terms of weight, not size. The heavier the diamond, the
greater the carat weight. Two diamonds of equal weight can have
very different values, because the quality is still determined
by the color, clarity and cut. As diamonds increase in size,
their cost tends to increase exponentially rather than
arithmetically. Thus, a one-carat diamond can cost significantly
more than a one-half carat diamond of equal quality. The weight
of a diamond less than one carat in size may also be described
in terms of "points". There are 100 "points" in 1 carat.
Now you have a
better idea about how to buy a
